The YMCA River Run celebrated their 40th anniversary in style, seeing over 300 runners partake to help raise money for various programs that the YMCA offers, specifically the Strong Kids program which supports anyone facing financial difficulties.

Runners had the option to run a race as short as 3 kilometers to as long as 21 kilometers.

Founders were present and besides some logistical challenges to hurdle, such as road closures, the race went off without any issues.

YMCA CEO Sharon Hayward sang the praise of the volunteers and runners, and offered advice for people who are too shy to run the half marathon but still wants to support the cause.

“You can walk. People were here with their strollers, pushing little ones. It’s just a great way to get active, be part of the community, find that sense of belonging while supporting a charity,” Hayward said.

Hayward said she’s looking forward to their camps beginning later this month.
