High school aged girls will have the chance to play on an all female hockey team this winter in Irvine.

This will be a first for the Irvine Minor Hockey Association, forming a U-18 girls team.

The Bulldogs team has been accepted into the Rocky Mountain Female Hockey League.

Head Coach Torill Hutchinson said the development of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers Womens Hockey Team and the formation of the Professional Womens Hockey League has given girls more opportunity in hockey.

She adds they are really excited to push this forward and see where these girls go.

“There is a lot of talent in Irvine, and Medicine Hat as well, and the surrounding areas for female hockey,” Hutchinson.

“These girls have practiced really hard. They all can skate extremely well, stick handles, shoot the puck, and at the end of the day, we want to keep them in Medicine Hat and support them moving forward in female hockey.”

Hutchinson adds the overall goals is to keep these girls in sports into their adult years to keep a healthy lifestyle.
