Two Medicine Hat men have been arrested after police found them in a vehicle with tools for a break-in and stolen mail.

The Medicine Hat Police Service responded to a business for a report of shoplifting on June 11.

After arriving at the scene, patrol officers located the suspect vehicle and its occupants, police said Thursday.

Further investigation revealed a large amount of stolen mail and break-in tools in the vehicle, according to police news release.

A 41-year-old man was charged with possession of a Canada Post key, various counts of possessing identity documents, having break-in tools and possession of stolen credit card data.

A 29-year-old man was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, shoplifting under $5,000, possession of a Canada Post key and possession of various identity documents, break-in tools and stolen credit card data.

After release hearings, the 41-year-old was released pending his next court appearance scheduled for July 3 while the younger suspect was remanded into custody until his next appearance in provincial court on June 13.

The investigation is ongoing as MHPS investigators are working closely with Canada Post Inspectors and with their assistance the recovered mail and packages will be returned to their intended recipients once they are no longer required for investigational purposes.
