MONTREAL — Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo is hitting back at Jacques Villeneuve for harsh comments made by the Canadian.

Villeneuve, the 1997 world champion, ranted in a television broadcast Friday that Ricciardo should no longer be in F1.

Ricciardo responded at the Canadian Grand Prix on Saturday by placing fifth in qualifying for RB F1 team, his best result of the season.

He said after the session that Villeneuve has probably hit his head a few too many times.

The 34-year-old Ricciardo has eight Grand Prix wins and 32 podiums in his F1 career.

His first win came at the Canadian GP in 2014, exactly 10 years ago Saturday.
