28-year old man charged with Assault, Sexual Assault and Unlawful Confinement after an incident in Medicine Hat

A 28-year old man of No Fixed Address, has been charged with Assault, Sexual Assault and Unlawful Confinement after an incident in Medicine Hat..

On June 5, 2024, Medicine Hat Police Service were alerted to an incident which occurred in the downtown area of 5 Ave SE, whereby a female, walking to her place of employment was physically and sexually assaulted by a male, who was a stranger to her.

The male pushed her into a doorway, assaulted her and temporarily restrained her.

The female was able get free and flee the incident.

MHPS Patrol and Major Crimes officers initiated an investigation, searched the area and interviewed witnesses and local business owners.

As a result, the male was quickly identified and arrested.

The individual appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was released by the Justice of the Peace on a Recognizance.

Following his release, police identified him as a suspect in an unrelated physical assault, he was arrested a short time later.

He is currently in custody awaiting another Bail Hearing.
