Brooks Bandits to host one-time BCHL exhibition championship

May 27, 2024 | 8:58 AM

It’s a one-time championship for bragging rights.

The champions of the BCHL in British Columbia will take on Alberta division champion Brooks Bandits this weekend.

The Rocky Mountain Challenge is a best-of-three exhibition matchup between the winners of the Fred Page Cup in B.C. — the Surrey Eagles — and the Alberta Cup winners in the province adjacent.

Tickets are now available for the three games. Game 1 is May 31 at 7 p.m., Game 2 is June 1 at 7 p.m. and, if necessary, Game 3 is 5 p.m. on June 2.

Those interested in purchasing tickets can do so at BrooksBandits.ca or by visiting the ticket office in-person between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.

More details on weekend events such as entertainment, activities and schedule will be released in the coming days, organizers said in a news release.

The Bandits won the 2024 Alberta Cup following two series that saw them beat the Okotoks Oilers 4-3 in the Alberta semifinal, followed by a 4-1 series win over the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the Alberta final.

Now, they’ll look to add Rocky Mountain Challenge champion to their legacy, a franchise that has recently won national junior championships when it was part of the AJHL.

Next season, the Bandits will be fully integrated in the B.C. hockey league.

The Bandits were part of several teams that defected to the BCHL from the AJHL during the 2023-24 season.
