Man arrested after Medicine Hat police respond to firearms incident

A 23-year-old was arrested after Medicine Hat police responded to a firearms incident in the area of Northlands Pointe Northeast, authorities said in a Friday news release.

The Medicine Hat Police Service received information that suggested someone in the area had either intentionally or unintentionally discharged a firearm on Thursday.

The MHPS criminal investigation team took over the investigation and a subject of interest was identified and arrested, police said in a news release.

Subsequently a residential search warrant was executed and various loaded firearms including a long barrel gun and pistol were located and seized.

The suspect was charged with careless use and storage of a firearm, two counts of a prohibited or restricted weapon, possession of a loaded prohibited or restriction firearms and possession of a firearm or weapon obtained through an offence.

He was held for a judicial interim release hearing where he was released from custody pending his next court appearance on June 13 in Medicine Hat Provincial Court.
