Division Avenue South Rehabilitation project in Medicine Hat gets underway

The Division Avenue South Rehabilitation project is underway with roadwork beginning Wednesday.

A full reconstruction of Division Avenue from Third Street to 12th Street will see a reduction of the width of the roadway.

A three-metre-wide multi-use pathway will be incorporated to make the area safer for pedestrians, motorists and cyclists as part of the City of Medicine Hat‘s “Complete Streets” theme.

This pathway will link up to the existing path at the bottom of College Drive.

Installation upgrade and repair of water mains, sanitary sewers and storm water infrastructure will be completed.

John Ashton, planning engineer, City of Medicine Hat said this should help water drainage issues during heavy rainfall in the area.

“That is the anticipation where we’re working with consulting engineers to help make those improvements and to provide a level of comfort that in a major event that we’ve been seeing that we have better flow off the roads,” Ashton said.

In early June expect parts of Division Avenue to be shut down as deep utility repairs and road reconstruction begin.

The project will run until the fall, with October as the anticipated completion.
