Rainfall continues to add to once in 50-year conditions near Medicine Hat

Another 6.3 millimetres of rain fell at the Medicine Hat Regional Airport last night.

the total precipitation for May to 106.3 millimetres.

Alberta agriculture says soil moisture conditions in the south region are now above normal in many fields, with grades to once in 12 to 25 year ratings.

As of May 8, Alberta Environment says rainfall amounts in the immediate area of Medicine Hat over the last 30 days happen once every 50 years.

A precipitation map for the last 180 days shows a bulls eye over the Cypress Hills, with amounts between 2 to 300 millimetres, with much of Cypress county recording 150 to 175 millimetres since Nov. 11.

Alberta agriculture says the abrupt reversal is not unprecedented.

In 2002, excessive summer moisture followed a severe drought that peaked in 2001.
