Tigers McKenna and Lindstrom named finalists for 2024 CHL Awards

A pair of Medicine Hat Tigers are nominees for 2024 Canadian Hockey League awards.

Tigers Forward Gavin McKenna is nominated for the CHL Rookie of the Year Award along with Jake O’Brien (Brantford Bulldogs/OHL) and Emile Guite (Chicoutimi Sagueneens/QMJHL).

McKenna won the WHL’s Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as the leagues Rookie of Year after scoring 97 points in 61 regular season games to go with six points in five playoff games.

O’Brien had 64 points in 61 OHL regular season games, and five points in six playoff games.

Guite put up 57 points in 61 QMJHL regular season games, adding four points in eight post season contests.

Tigers Forward Cayden Lindstrom is up for the CHL Top Draft Prospect Award. Fellow nominees are Zayne Parekh (Saginaw Spirit/OHL) and Maxim Masse (Chicoutimi Sagueneens/QMJHL).

Lindstrom had 46 points in 32 games during a season where he dealt with injury and is currently listed as the Central Scouting Bureau’s third ranked North American skater for the 2024 NHL Entry draft.

Parekh is ranked as the fifth best skater for the 2024 NHL Entry draft, while Masse is ranked 30th.

The award winners will be announced on Saturday, June 1.
