A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of southern Alberta.

Environment Canada said Monday conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail.

The storms are expected to begin early in the afternoon, producing “severe weather”.

There’s a 60 per cent chance of showers from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.

The expected storm comes a few days after heavy rains pelted the region over the course of three days last week.

An air quality advisory was also posted over the weekend.

Meanwhile, firefighters are battling wildfires in other parts of Alberta, including in Grande Prairie.
