Four arrested in $90K Medicine Hat drug bust

Four people have been arrested in a major drug bust by ALERT Medicine Hat.

ALERT seized 500 grams of methamphetamine and 573 grams of cocaine worth nearly $90,000, according to a news release on Thursday.

An investigation began in February 2024 in response to community concerns related to drug trafficking in the Medicine Hat region.

The organized crime team made the drug seizures during a pair of vehicle stops on April 11 and April 30, with help from the Medicine Hat Police Service and Brooks RCMP.

Staff Sgt. Ryan Thorburn said the investigation was a successful proactive measure.

“Our team is focused on community safety and by intercepting the drug shipment before it reached the city we have prevented these harmful substances from hitting the streets,” Thorburn said in a statement.

The four arrested are from Medicine Hat, according to police, and range in age from 25 to 59 years old.

ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta government. It is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime.
