Brooks Bandits win playoff series in dominant Game 7

The Brooks Bandits on Tuesday won its first playoff series as a British Columbia Hockey League team, booking a ticket to the Alberta division final.

The Bandits won in a dominant 5-1 fashion over the Ototoks Oilers in a Game 7 brawl.

Caelan Fitzpatrick scored a hatrick — one in each period. Nathan Free got one and Nick Peluso got the other. Rylan Brown was the sole goal scorer for the Oilers in the second period.

The Bandits will now play a best of seven against the Sherwood Park Crusaders to claim the BCHL Alberta title.

The winner of that series will play against the Fred Page Cup champions — the top BCHL team from British Columbia — in a best-of-three exhibition.

The Brooks and several other junior hockey teams left the AJHL earlier this year. Next season, the breakaway Alberta teams will play in an integrated playoffs with the rest of the BCHL.
