The Medicine Hat Tigers announced the signing of fifteen-year-old forward Shaeffer Gordon-Carrol to a Western Hockey League scholarship and development agreement on Friday.

The 2008 born player from Salt Lake City, Utah, was selected by the Tigers with the ninth overall pick in the 2023 WHL US Prospect Draft.

Gordon-Carroll played with the Chicago Mission U-15 AAA program during the 2023-2024 season, winning a gold medal at U.S. Nationals this season. He has played the past three seasons with the Chicago Mission Hockey Club.

Gordon-Carroll had said he is looking forward to working with coach and general manger Willie Desjardins and the Tigers.

“I’m excited to get started with the organization that has a very bright future and the aspirations to win a championship,” Gordan-Carroll said in a statement.

Desjardins is happy with the signing, and feels Gordon-Carroll is a strong addition to the Tigers.

“This a great day for the Tigers organization to add Shaeffer to our hockey club,” Desjardins said.

“He’s an elite player that’s had a great career thus far including winning a Gold Medal at the Youth Olympics this season with Team USA. We’re looking forward to having him at our upcoming prospects camp in the spring and seeing him have a great WHL career.”

Bobby Fox, Tigers director of player personnel said he has seen immense growth in Gordon-Carrol’s game over the season.

“Shaeffer is a right-handed forward that combines power with skill,” Fox said.

“Playing a bulldozing style with strong skating and scoring ability.”

Gordon-Carroll will be at the Tigers Prospects Camp from May 31 to June 2 in Medicine Hat, before attending the fall main camp.

Gordon-Carrol’s WHL signing comes just a day after it was confirmed that his hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah is getting a National Hockey League team.
