The province is providing funds to bring high speed internet to over 22 thousand homes in Alberta.

The Alberta and Canadian governments are investing more than $112 million to connect more than 22,500 homes across the province to broadband internet.

Nate Glubish, Minister of Technology and Innovation said, “Improving access to high-speed internet will level the playing field. I’m confident that we are on track to achieving our goal of connecting every single Alberta household to high-speed internet by 2027.”

Through Alberta’s Broadband Strategy, the government is investing $390 million over five years in rural broadband service. They say it is to help Albertans stay connected, support their livelihoods, and improve access to education and healthcare.

The federal government is matching that investment, bringing the total to $780 million in order to improve connectivity in rural, remote and Indigenous communities.

Among the recipients is the Siksika Nation, and Chief Ouray Crowfoot said, “Alberta Municipalities is pleased to see the provincial and federal governments work together to improve high-speed internet connectivity across Alberta. It is exciting to see something for which we have long advocated is becoming a reality.”
