Volleyball tryouts starting for Rattlers upcoming season

Recruiting for Medicine Hat College’s volleyball team started last weekend.

High school talent from around the city, province and southern Saskatchewan hit the city to demonstrate what they had to offer.

The Rattlers hosted training camps for both the mens and women’s teams and over a dozen athletes attended the women’s camp.

Head Coach Kim Jensen said that having returning players there to help run drills is important to determine how new talent stacks up at the collegiate level.

Jensen said that involving the team is crucial for comparing skill and building the right team culture.

“I think that having them there is really valuable because they’re the ones that have to play together,” Jensen said.

“I can see really great things in a player, but I like getting my players’ feedback,” she said.

“I think that’s really important so getting their opinions and feedback about what they saw.”

“Some of them might be from the same area and they might know each other, so getting that background information is really key.”

“I wouldn’t do it without them.”

A training camp in December resulted in two girls committing to the college for next season.

The Rattlers were winless last season after going 0-19.
