That March lion is poised to pounce.

A special weather statement from Environment Canada says southeastern Alberta can expect heavy snow this weekend.

It will begin late tonight and intensify through tomorrow.

Amounts of between 10 and 20 centimeters are likely, with some pockets of up to 30 centimeters of snow are possible.

Gusty winds tomorrow afternoon and evening will also bring blowing snow.

To the east, much of southwestern Saskatchewan is under a winter storm watch, with snowfall of between 25 and 35 centimeters and wind gusting to 70 kilometers per hour.

Snow and blowing snow will continue through Monday.

Near blizzard conditions are possible.
