Valentine’s Day in Medicine Hat – here’s what you need to know

Feb 14, 2024 | 10:05 AM

It’s Valentine’s Day.

.

For many, it’s a celebration of romance, love and, for some, a close bond of friendship. Either way, it’s a day that many spend thinking about a special someone in their lives.

Here in Medicine Hat and Redcliff, local businesses have been preparing for the special day.

The Medicine Hat restaurant is open until 8 p.m. on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations are possible but should be done at least six hours in advance, the owners said.

For something special that may not be edible, an eclectic artisan and decor shop in Redcliff has a few Valentine’s Day offerings.

Uniquely Different Decor and More in Redcliff has mood-setting candles available that can be gift-wrapped for a romantic evening.

The shop also has a Valentine’s Day-themed display that shoppers can browse to find a gift for a special someone, or even themselves.

Shantal Burton, one of the owners, said she hopes the display will spark Valentine’s Day gift ideas.

“We tried to collect the things that either had to do with relationships or just love, to help show off and give ideas,” Burton said.

One place that expects to be busy all day is Fresh Flowers and Gifts downtown, where owner Brenda Ruckaber and her team stands ready to prepare flower arrangements up until closing.

“Valentine’s Day, it’s just crazy pants,” Ruckaber said.

With pre-orders completed, Ruckaber explained staff stay busy preparing last-minute purchases before the 5:30 p.m. closing time.

“They’re usually the ones that are ones most desperate,” she added with a laugh.

As for what kind of flowers to get one’s significant other, Ruckaber said roses are always popular but buyers should also consider the shop’s tropical flower options for something a bit different.
