‘Top 7 over 70’ award comes to Medicine Hat area for 2024

The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta is looking to inspire people by bringing the Top 7 Over 70 award from Calgary to Medicine Hat.

The award’s ability to raise the profile of those 70 years or older doing extraordinary things is something they want to expand to Medicine Hat and area.

The award demonstrates the ongoing impact of those who defy age norms, shape our world, and continue to inspire.

It aims to show age is not a barrier to innovation, creativity and positive social impacts.

Board member David Andrews said the hope is to keep people active and productive.

“As soon as you start talking about it, people get excited,” Andrews said.

“They start to think about well, you know, I know somebody that did this or did that or that would be perfect for this,” he added.

“I don’t think we’re gonna have a big problem getting some excellent nominees.”

Nominations for those in Southeastern Alberta begin Feb. 26 and conclude on Aug. 26 and are accepted through the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta.

An award gala will be held in October to celebrate the winners.
