Police seeking driver of white SUV after pedestrian struck near Crescent Heights High School

Medicine Hat Police Service are looking for the driver of a white SUV after a hit and run with a pedestrian near Crescent Heights High School.

At around 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon one individual in a group of students, walking eastbound in the crosswalk at Division Avenue and 12th Street Northeast was struck.

The white SUV heading southbound was making a left turn from 12th Street Northeast onto Division Avenue North when they hit the individual.

Sergeant Stacey Fishley said it’s is a busy intersection that people need to be cautious at, especially during the start and end of the school day and noon hour.

“There is a lot of children and young adults that are crossing the streets, are using the crosswalks,” Fishley said.

“The people that are using that intersection as drivers need to be aware that they are going to be there,” he added.

“They need to make sure that when they turn that they are turning in safety, so to make sure that nobody gets hit.”

The youth received minor injuries and reported the incident to the school resource officer at Crescent Heights High School.

The driver had spoke with the youths, however more information is needed.
