Medicine Hat’s Original Internet Providers
Memory Lane Computers opened its doors in 1981 in Medicine Hat as an all-inclusive I.T. solutions business, providing support from small businesses to City level organizations. In the 1990s, Memory Lane Computers got into dial-up internet.
“We were the first internet providers in Medicine Hat, before Telus, Shaw and Monarch Cablesystems,” says owner Richard Munro, who has been with Memory Lane Computers for 25 years.
Eventually, the business switched to offering highspeed internet as it became available in Canada, and they have continued to offer it ever since. Now, with changes in a few larger companies that offer internet in Medicine Hat, Memory Lane Computers is bringing the focus back to their original internet service.
The landscape of bundled services is changing, with the rise of streaming and the decline of landline phones and having reliable locally serviced internet has become a priority. Something else that is becoming more common lately is something Richards calls “bill creep.” People are noticing the monthly cost of their packages increasing. You may sign up for a service based on a certain promotion, but as it ends your bill will slowly creep up in price. This is something to be aware of when researching potential service providers. This comes with an overall price increase for services in general.
