Work continues at Medicine Hat’s Southridge Community Park

Landscaping and irrigation work at Medicine Hat’s Southridge Community Park has continued over the winter, but more work is slated to be done as the weather warms up.

The current focus has been on activities inside the pumphouse.

The park’s washrooms remain open to the public, but the city says there might be some short-term closures in the upcoming months as work continues.

Construction of a new wall on the west side of the washroom building has been completed and the wall on the east side of the building is slated for completion this spring.

Rehabilitation of the trail surrounding the pond will be completed this year, maybe even this spring. An update on trail closures will be provided once the schedule is finalized.

Seeding of the southeast corridor, which was originally scheduled for last fall, is also planned for completion this spring.

The city says this area of the park has had to maintain its current state for much longer than originally planned. But this was strategic move to manage water resources, understanding new seeding requires substantial and consistent hydration.

Construction fencing is in place where work is still in progress and the city requests that visitors adhere to all construction signs and barriers within the park.
