Jersey City closes doors at Medicine Hat Mall

Jan 29, 2024 | 4:00 PM

The Medicine Hat Mall is experiencing the latest store closure.

Jersey City closed its doors last Tuesday.

Sources told CHAT News the store was profitable but the increased rent made it difficult to continue operations.

The source continued by saying that there was a lease agreement in place and Medicine Hat Mall allegedly made adjustments to the agreement before the renewal.

“We can’t comment on why retailers have chosen to transition out of the mall or the market,” Medicine Hat Mall said in a statement to CHAT News.

“We are proud to be a great community partner, which is evidenced through our recent collaboration with local community artists this past summer, as well as other non-profit organizations throughout the year.”

The spokesperson highlighted mall redevelopment, including a new 20,000 square foot tenant later this year.

The jewelry store Michael Hill closed last fall, but nine stores are designated as “new” on the mall website.

Jersey City will not be relocating in Medicine Hat.
