A teen and 26-year-old man charged in connection with serious assault in Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat, AB–A 14-year-old male youth and a 26-year-old man have been charged in connection with a serious assault that occurred outside a local hotel earlier this year.

It happened in the rear parking lot of the hotel just before 11 in the evening of May 12, 2023.

A victim had sustained serious, life-threatening injuries that required immediate medical attention. The investigation revealed that two male suspects were responsible for the attack but they had fled the scene prior to police arriving.

After several months, police were able to identify the two suspects. The youth was charged in October with the following:

• Aggravated Assault
• Assault with a Weapon
• Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public.

The youth cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He has been released on bail and is scheduled to be back in court On Jan, 22.

Last week, the second suspect, a 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with:

• Aggravated Assault
• Assault with a Weapon
• Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public
• Breach of Release Order

He was remanded into custody pending his next court appearance on Dec. 6.

The victim has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from their injuries.
