Canadian men rally from early deficit to beat Brazil and move up to world rankings
VILLAJOYOSA, Spain — Captain Lucas Rumball scored three tries Saturday as Canada defeated Brazil 40-15 to finish third at the four-team La Vila International Rugby Cup.
The victory vaulted the Canadian men two places to No. 21 in the world rankings. A loss and Canada would have fallen three places to No. 26, currently occupied by Brazil.
The 18th-ranked U.S. won the tournament, defeating No. 19 Spain 42-12 later Saturday.
Matthew Oworu, Cole Keith and Andrew Coe also scored tries for Canada, which led 14-10 at the half. Peter Nelson kicked five conversions at El Pantano Stadium.
