Borea Construction workers ratify new two-year agreement

Nov 16, 2023 | 2:04 PM

CALGARY, AB – Workers at Borea Construction ULC have ratified a new two-year collective agreement.

It provides the employees with annual wage increases and other improvements.

The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 63. CLAC noted it was certified to represent Borea’s employees in July 2019. More than 250 employees took part in the vote at seven different sites in southern Alberta.

The new contract received a thumbs up from 66 per cent of voters. It provides employees with wage increases of four per cent this year, and two per cent in 2025.

Randy Klassen, regional director of the union’s Calgary Member Centre said, “Borea has performed a lot of work in the past five years in Alberta and will have a lot of work on both wind projects and solar projects for the next few years.”

“This is our third collective agreement with Borea in Alberta, and it is becoming a more mature agreement and one where we made some gains in contract language and wages.”

Additionally, employees will receive extra compensation for daily travel, living-out allowance, and for working up tower. It also includes stronger language on progression through the wage grid and other protections for working during the night shift.
