Medicine Hat Legion encourages continued support for its veterans

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Robertson Memorial Branch #17 (Medicine Hat Legion) is a place veterans can go to find community and support.

Remembrance Day marks the most crucial time of year for them, as a time to honor veterans’ memory and to raise poppy funds. Those poppy funds go directly to veterans struggling to pay bills and survive.

President of the Legion, Sheila Donner says joining the legion, dining at their bar and showing up for a Remembrance Day ceremonies are other ways to show support.

“I would say it’s very, very important to the veteran, to see the community support, the people,” says Donnor. “I’m not a veteran, but I’m in the parade and I walk along and I see the crowds on the sidewalk and it almost brings tears to my eyes and I know a lot of the veterans feel the same way.”
