Brooks man hit with 8 charges after shooting himself

BROOKS, AB – A 45-year-old Brooks man has been hit with eight charges after shooting himself, police said Thursday.

Brooks RCMP on Aug. 24 responded to a disturbance at a local business and an investigation revealed that there was an accidental discharge of a firearm.

The man was in hospital with serious injuries after shooting himself.

On Nov. 3, the Brooks man was charged with:

  1. Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization
  2. Possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized
  3. Possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without licence/registration
  4. Pointing a firearm
  5. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Schedule I: Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth)
  6. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Schedule I: Cocaine
  7. Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  8. Possession of firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle

The man will be appearing in the Brooks Alberta Court of Justice on Nov. 22, police said.
