RCMP offer safety tips for Halloween night

Oct 31, 2023 | 4:32 PM

Red Deer RCMP are providing some safety tips so that we can all have a truly happy Halloween.

For trick-or-treaters:

  • Wear bright costumes or something reflective, this will be more visible to drivers.
  • Wear face paint instead of a mask; masks can impair your vision and hearing
  • If your costume has weapons make sure it is obvious that they are fake
  • Be accompanied by a trusted adult or have a cellphone if unaccompanied
  • Travel in groups if you are unsupervised
  • Always walk on sidewalks and if you need to cross the road look both ways and cross only when it’s safe to do so
  • Stay in well-lit areas
  • Never enter a stranger’s house or vehicle
  • Plan your route and be aware of locations you can go to seek assistance if needed

Homeowners:

  • Illuminate and clear pathways; if there is snow and ice clear the pathway
  • If giving out candy, please use packaged treats to ensure they are safe for consumption

Motorists:

  • Please drive slowly and use extra caution, especially in residential areas
  • Never drive impaired
