MEDICINE HAT — The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society will mark the start of Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta, with the 9th annual Memorial Walk.

The community is invited to take part in the event which happens Wednesday, November 1 starting at noon at Medicine Hat City Hall.

“Family Violence Prevention Month is an opportunity for our community to come together and learn more about this issue, and what they can do to build a future where every home is a safe home, and every family is a safe family,” says Natasha Carvalho, Executive Director of the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter society.

In a release, Carvalho notes people may also notice purple ribbons and signs at middle and high schools.

“Much of our focus during the month is working with schools and youth organizations to provide programming so that youth can learn about family violence and healthy relationships, and help be a part of ending cycles of violence.”

The MHWSS has several other programs events planned through the month of November as part of Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta.
