Elic Ayomanor: From Hat High to Stanford’s football limelight

Oct 30, 2023 | 4:05 PM

STANFORD, CA – Elic Ayomanor has been tearing up the USA college football scene one catch at a time. However, before he became the number one receiver on the Stanford Cardinals, Ayomanor was a student at Hat High.

“He was an exceptional athlete for us. He started both as a grade 10 on offense and defense and he was the main part of our special teams kick return as well,” says Quinn Skelton, coach of the Hat High football team. “So very, very talented athlete, great work ethic and also an exceptional student.”

Skelton coached Ayomanor in grade 10. In grade 11, he moved to the States and was picked up by the Stanford Cardinals after high school.

He wasn’t able to play last year due to a knee injury but is now the leading receiver on Stanford with 5 touchdowns and 737 yards in 8 games.

Skelton says Ayomanor has been an inspiration for current Hat High players.

“Individually, he’s a heck of an athlete all by himself, but I think we can take a lot of pride with knowing that he came through here in Medicine Hat,” says Skelton. “Certainly puts us all on the map, that’s a guarantee.”

On Saturday, Ayomanor left his game against the Washington Huskies with a shoulder injury. There is currently no word on when he will be playing again.
