MEDICINE HAT — People curious about the amount of crime in their neighborhood will once again have a way to find out, with the return of the crime map.

The Medicine Hat Police Service and the City of Medicine Hat have combined on the return of the crime map, an interactive community safety tool that displays calls for service throughout Medicine Hat.

Chief of Police Alan Murphy says “keeping the community informed about police activities and matters concerning community safety is a top priority for the MHPS.”

“Citizens are now able to view call data to be better informed about what events are occuring in their neighborhood,” says Murphy in a release.

Nigel Forster, a GIS specialist says “collaborating with the MHPS helped create an easy to read, visual location-based dashboard to expose crime statistics for our community.”

The map refreshes every 24 hours and displays data for a previous six month period.

Privacy of individuals is maintained as calls are aggregated and pinned to cross street locations rather than to specific addresses.

The map can be found under the Quick Links menu at the city police web page, the MHPS mobile app or by clicking the crime map button at medicinehat.ca/maps.
