Eagle Butte hosts volleyball Spirit Night tonight

DUNMORE, AB – The Eagle Butte parking lot may be especially busy right now for spirit night, a day dedicated to honouring senior volleyball players.

There are food trucks and two volleyball games being played at the event. After those matches, student volleyball players will receive recognition from their school for their hard work and dedication to the sport.

Greg Elgie is the coach of that team and he says this may be one of the last home games the girls play this year, before they hit the road for the rest of this seasons games. The team is hoping to extend that season well into the end of November, by winning zones and qualifying for high school volleyball provincials.

“So essentially, we’re just celebrating the success of our seniors kind of giving back to them for all the years they put into volleyball,” says Elgie. “For a lot of them, this might be their last volleyball season. We just want to do our best to acknowledge them and bring as many students as we can out and their parents and families to help support them and help show appreciation.”

11 out of the 12 players on the seniors girls team are in grade 12. That team is playing right now, and the senior boys will be playing at 7pm.
