Métis beading, kitchen party coming to Police Point Park

Sep 13, 2023 | 9:58 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A pair of celebrations of Métis culture are coming to Police Point Park in the next two weeks.

This Friday from 1-3 p.m. the MH Interpretive Program is hosting a Métis Beading Workshop at the Nature Centre.

“This specific type of beading originates from the mixture of two cultures: the flower embroideries of French-Canadian nuns and First Nations beading,” the group says of the beading being taught.

They say the goal is to teach people about a unique culture that has been around for hundreds of years.

The cost is $10 which includes all supplies, and you can call the Nature Centre at 403-529-6225 to register.

On Sept. 24, a Métis Kitchen Party will take place on the Nature Centre’s back patio. In partnership with the Miywasin Friendship Centre bannock, Métis jigging and live fiddle performances will be part of the celebration from 1-3 p.m.

The Métis Kitchen Party is free and open to everyone.
