Optimism and excitement felt as Tories meet in Quebec City

QUEBEC CITY — Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz says there’s a sense of excitement in Quebec City, as delegates gather for the first in-person convention for the Conservative party in five years due to the pandemic.

The convention is being held as polling numbers show the Conservatives would form a majority government if an election were held today.

Motz says he’s not a poll watcher himself, but says it’s encouraging to see what the polls are demonstrating.

At the same time, he says there’s still a lot of work to be done to earn the trust of voters.

“I think it’s important not to get ahead of ourselves” says Motz and that ” we have a lot of work to do to provide hope for Canadians and listen to what Canadians are telling us”.

Motz says it’s important for the party to continue to hold the government to account and ensure the Conservatives form the next government whenever an election is held.

The Medicine Hat MP says leader Pierre Poilievre has been consistent in his message to caucus about the importance of the grassroots and how current support can be fragile if not managed properly and nurtured.

The Conservative caucus has heard from a group of economists and the ideas they presented on what they see and what needs to be done to make life affordable again for Canadians.

Motz also expected the Liberals will try to change the channel and focus on things that aren’t important to what Canadians want to see.
