Sep 8, 2023 | 1:42 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – To honour the memory of Leslie McLennan, the Lettuce Smash Co-Ed Memorial Soccer Scrimmage social and fundraiser is set to take place in Medicine Hat this Saturday. The event promises a day filled with camaraderie, soccer action, and fundraising efforts in support of mental health.

Leslie McLennan’s sister Kelly describes Leslie as a force on the soccer field.

“She was such a strong player, and she played for many years at the Medicine at College, and then was recruited to play at the Regina University as well,” says Kelly.

She adds, “this event was organized by her soccer friends in memory of her, and it’s called Lettuce Smash. My sister had so many nicknames, you can’t even count and Lettuce was one of those nicknames, so that’s what’s bringing us all together,”

The schedule for the day-long event is as follows (participants can join in on all of the events, or just a portion):

12:00pm – 2:00pm – Scrimmage The Big Marble Go Centre (FLC) Soccer Fields in NE Crescent Heights will be the backdrop for a lively 7v7 CO-ED Scrimmage, with a fun mini-game for kids. Teams will be formed on the day, so early birds are encouraged to arrive for a warm-up session.

2:00pm & 4:00pm – Watch College Home Openers Attendees can continue the festivities by supporting the Medicine Hat College Rattler Soccer teams during their home opener games. The women’s game starts at 2:00 pm, followed by the men’s game at 4:00 pm.

6:00pm – Social and Fundraiser The Yard, located in downtown Medicine Hat at 619 Third St. SE, will be the venue for the evening’s social gathering and fundraiser. This family-friendly, outdoor event will offer drinks and a variety of food options from both The Yard’s menu and food trucks. A short presentation during the evening will highlight the importance of the cause.
