One man in hospital after shooting himself at Brooks bar

UPDATE 4:15 p.m.: RCMP say investigation has revealed the incident to be an accidental discharge of a firearm. Video surveillance shows the victim showing his firearm to another person when it discharged and he shot himself. No other people were injured.

BROOKS, AB – RCMP in Brooks are investigating after a shooting at a bar in that city early Thursday morning.

According to RCMP, officers were called to a bar for a call about a disturbance at the establishment. Once there Mounties were told a 45-year-old Brooks man had been taken to hospital with a gunshot wound. The male suffered a significant injury and was later flown to a Calgary hospital.

Police say the investigation so far suggests this to be an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public.
