FreshCo grocery store to open next week

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat’s newest grocery store has announced its opening day.

FreshCo says the grand opening will be on Thursday, Aug. 17, announcing the news on Facebook this week.

The store is in the Medicine Hat Mall where the former Safeway used to be. Sobeys, the parent company of both FreshCo and Safeway, announced almost two years ago that the location would be converted. Safeway closed in January 2021 and work to revamp the store has been taking place since.

FreshCo held a hiring fair in July and representatives recently were at a Medicine Hat Mavericks game to promote the store.

Launched in 2010, FreshCo is the discount grocery arm of Sobeys with more than 120 stores from B.C. to Ontario.
