Tossed cigarette butt found at grass fire next to Trans-Canada Highway

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB – Cypress County fire crews made an unwanted discovery on Wednesday at a grass fire.

While responding to the incident along the Trans-Canada Highway crews found a discarded cigarette butt.

“Our ranchers and farmers are having a tough enough time as is with this drought. Please don’t throw fire at them too. Find a safer way of disposing of cigarette butts,” says the county in a Facebook post.

Just one day prior fire chief Jason Linton warned that conditions are perfect for manmade fires.

The county’s post also reminds people of the dangers crews face fighting a fire alongside the highway.
