Local man will stand trial for kidnapping

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat man will go to trial on a charge of kidnapping.

Lester Landry, 65, was charged in January of 2023 after a woman reported she had been confined to a vehicle and driven to a secluded area against her will.

She was able to leave the vehicle as it slowed down on Saamis Drive NW near 23rd Street and call 911. Investigators determined the woman had arranged to be picked up after responding to a request for house cleaning services that was posted on social media.

A date for trial could be set on August 18.
