Fire restriction in County of 40 Mile

Jul 21, 2023 | 11:59 AM

COUNTY OF FORTY MILE No. 8, AB – A fire restriction is in effect for the County of Forty Mile No. 8 cancelling all outside fire permits and halting any new permits from being issued.

The county posted the notice on July 20 to take effect at 12:01 p.m. the same day. It will remain in place until further notice.

The restriction includes but is not limited to fireworks, open flame torches or lanterns, charcoal briquette barbecues, open flame oil devices (such as turkey deep fryers) and exploding targets.

The county says internal household fireplaces, liquid fuel barbecues and appliances (propane and natural gas) and campfires contained within approved fire pits are still permitted.

“Although this is not a fire ban, the county is still asking citizens and visitors to use extra caution and be extra vigilant when burning while the restriction is in effect,” reads the notice on the county website. It also recommends soaking the area adjacent to any fire pits and barrels with water prior to any ignition.

The county says due to current conditions it may move to a fire ban with little to no notice. For the most up-to-date information regarding current conditions please check the county website and the Alberta Fire Bans website.
