Environment Canada has confirmed some tornadoes touched down in an area to the west of Medicine Hat yesterday, but can’t say how many.

The weather agency started getting reports and photos of tornadoes and funnel clouds between Iron Springs and Big Stone around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Tornado watches were issued and lasted until the early evening.

Environment Canada says the storms also contained hail ranging from loonie to toonies in size, and is asking people with pictures of the tornadoes and any damage to send them in.

The storm also produced strong winds, with peak gusts up to 87 kilometers an hour at Patricia and Barnwell.
