City man pleads guilty to sexual assault on person under 16

Jun 1, 2023 | 11:39 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a person under 16.

Cory James Dominaux was originally charged after an investigation by Medicine Hat Police Service in February 2021 into allegations a youth was involved in providing adult men with sex in exchange for profit.

The legal age of consent in Canada is 16, and police say some of the victims could not legally consent at the time of the offences.

Dominaux entered guilty pleas to sexual assault on a person under 16 and to luring a child under 16.

The guilty pleas were entered at what was to be the start of his King’s Bench trial on May 29.

The matter will return to court July 21 at which time a date for sentencing may be set.

A co-accused in this case, Michael Beauchesne, was sentenced to 15 months in prison and placed on probation for 24 months.

Charges against two other individuals were withdrawn.
