MEDICINE HAT, AB – Local students stepped into the long weekend today and are making it easier to put smiles on the faces of children with critical illnesses.

Webster Niblock School held its Walk for Wishes after two weeks of fundraising for Make-A-Wish in Medicine Hat.

Local coordinator Donna Serr says wishes have been granted to children in many Medicine Hat schools.

“A wish just brings so much into a family’s life, into that child’s life. And you know quite often those wishes, they just lift their spirits and you know it helps them to get better,” Serr says. “We all know what it’s like when we’re having a down day and something good happens to us. it really, it really does a lot to us, it makes us feel better so these kids are just, they become so happy and so excited when they get their wishes.”

Wishes granted locally include room makeovers, backyard playgrounds, gaming computers and Disney trips.

“Each wish is as special as the child that’s getting it,” Serr says.

Webster Niblock students raised more than $3,500.

Serr says local schools hold their own Walk for Wishes at varying times in the spring and fall.
