Alberta Wildfire Update: May 9
EDMONTON, AB – As of Tuesday, the Government of Alberta says that there were 88 active wildfires with 24 being classified as out of control. Twelve evacuation orders are in place for numerous communities in affected areas.
The province held a press conference this afternoon updating the media on the status of the wildfires raging across parts of the province.
The wildfires have caused the coronation celebration at the Botanical Gardens in Edmonton on Saturday to be cancelled.
Efforts against the wildfires may be compromised this weekend as a heat dome is expected to move into the province later this weekend. The heat is expected to bring temperatures as high as 33 C to parts of Alberta, creating the potential for more wildfires to develop.
