May 8, 2023 | 5:44 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Another step is being taken towards Truth and Reconciliation in Medicine Hat.

From May 8 to 12, 2023, Medicine Hat Public School Division, Medicine Hat College and the Miyasin Friendship Centre are hosting an event called KisKihkeyimowin, which means in Plains Cree “sharing good teachings.”

The event, which takes place on the grass between Medicine Hat College and the Cultural Centre, is to celebrate the cultures of the Cree, Metis and Blackfoot.

Students from Grades 4 to 10 from the public school division will hear from presenters from across Canada, including Indigenous leaders and community members, Elders and knowledge keepers.

In addition, students construct a tipi, participate in the circle of courage, craft, drum, Cree flute, make dream catchers, and learn about traditional dance, stories and traditions.

The sessions are not open to the public. The public is welcome to explore the tipis after 4 p.m.
