County Evacuation Alert expanded

Due to winds picking up this afternoon the evacuation alert for the County of Grande Prairie has been expanded.

Now, anyone residing from Range Road 75 to Range Road 80 from Township Road 712 south to the Wapiti River, including the Pipestone Creek area needs to prepare for evacuation and be on alert.

Residents are asked to pack up important documents, medications, food, water and important supplies, to be away from their homes for at least three days.

An evacuation order is still in place for all homes residing in the area of Township Road 712 south to the Wapiti River and between Range Road 65 and Range Road 74, as well as all residents from Township Road 710 (Correction line) south to the Wapiti River and between Highway 40 and Range Road 75, including the Dimsdale area.

Currently, in the Grande Prairie Forest Area, six fires are classified as out of control:

  • GWF017- Detected on May 5 and located 6km West of Valleyview. This fire is classified as out of control (OC) and is estimated to be 1720 hectares in size. This wildfire is located on both sides of Highway 43 and municipal structural protection is assisting with this wildfire.
  • GWF019- Located 21km west of Hwy 40 50 km South of Grande Prairie. This fire is classified as out of control (OC) and is estimated to be 10,000 hectares in size.
  • GWF020- located 10km was detected on April 29 and is located 18 km south of Grande Prairie. It is now classified as out of control (OC) and estimated to be 30 hectares in size.
  • GWF022- Located 20km southwest of Grovedale in the location of Paul’s cut-across and the Bald Mountain road. Currently, this fire is listed as out of control (OC) and is estimated to be 2 hectares
  • GWF023- Located 7.5 km northwest of Valleyview. This fire is classified as out of control (OC) and estimated to be 60 ha in size.
  • GCU003- Alberta Wildfire is assisting the County of Grande Prairie with a mutual aid wildfire in the Dunes area 8 km southeast of Dimsdale. This wildfire is estimated to be 1,500 hectares in size.
  • GMD001- the MD of Greenview fire is being assisted by Alberta Wildfire and a mutual aid wildfire, located 9.5 km south of Rycroft this wildfire is estimated 50 hectares in size.
