Canada loses to Sweden, will play for bronze at U18 men’s world hockey championship

BASEL, Switzerland — Canada will play for bronze at the men’s under-18 world hockey championship after losing to Sweden 7-2 in the semifinal on Saturday.

Forwards Otto Stenberg, who had five points, and David Edstrom each scored twice for Sweden, which won the tournament last year. 

Defenceman Tom Willander and forwards Anton Wahlberg and Zeb Forsfjall also scored for Sweden.

Forwards Angus MacDonell and Macklin Celebrini had the goals for Canada.

Sweden will play the United States for gold in a rematch of last year’s final and Canada takes on Slovakia for bronze on Sunday.

Canada last won gold in 2021 after missing the podium last year.
