Cattle liner fire closes Highway 41 north

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB. — A semi tractor trailer hauling cattle caught fire on Highway 41 near Township Road 190 last night.

It happened around 7:30 p.m.

Emergency crews from Hilda, Schuler and Dunmore joined RCMP in responding to the call, which resulted in the closure of the highway.

They were able to rescue some of the cattle and herd them into a nearby field, but an unknown number of animals were lost.

The driver of the semi wasn’t injured and the fire was not due to an accident.

The highway was closed in both directions before reopening after 7 this morning.
