MEDICINE HAT, AB – Sharing a pool with some of the top swimmers in the country has Medicine Hat’s Rowynn Biffart ready for the next strokes in her swimming career.

The Medicine Hat Waves Swim Club member was in Toronto last week for the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials. She earned her berth there by swimming Olympic qualifying times in the 100 metre and 200 metre breaststroke.

She says she did “pretty good” and “it was a really cool experience.”

Her Waves coach says her 200 metre time at the trials of 2:38.87 is the second fastest in the country for 2008-born swimmers and she’s on a track to Olympic trials in May 2024.

The 14-year-old also swam time trials for the 50 metre freestyle and 50 metre backstroke at the meet.

She even got to meet Canadian Olympians like Maggie Mac Neil and Josh Liendo last week.

“It was really cool. I got to watch quite a few of them and I got some of their autographs that was really cool as well,” she said before practice at Crestwood Pool this week. “I got to tak to a few of them nothing really stretgic about what they did but just kind of like a ‘hi’ and good luck and stuff like that.”

She’s now back in Medicine Hat and training hard to put herself on their level once again.
